Cornacchia World Cup is the largest and most international U19 volleyball tournament in Europe, attended by an extraordinary amount of National selections and top teams. It takes place in Pordenone (Italy) from 1983 and that makes it one of the oldest volleyball tournaments in the world.
The tournament was created by Tiziano Cornacchia in 1983. His sons Stefano and Matteo contribute to the organization of the events, which have always been managed with the support of the whole family, who grew up in the memory of “grandpa Ferruccio” to whom the tournament is dedicated since 1983.
In 4 decades, the Cornacchia tournament hosted the most important Italian volleyball clubs and hundreds of foreign teams. It is one of the most esteemed events in Europe, thanks to the almost exclusive participation of National selections and top teams from 5 continents.
This tournament is dedicated to Ferruccio Cornacchia, a real man of sport.
He founded Real Sant’Antonio sporting club in Porcia, at the end of the sixties.
He’s been involved in the first commitee of Centro Sportivo Italiano in Pordenone, as secretair, since it’s beginning.
After that, he became secretair of the new born Pordenone’s commitee of the Italian Volleyball Federation.
His authentic passion for sport led him to found Polisportiva San Giorgio of Porcia in 1975, starting from the volleyball teams.
Ferruccio passed away the 7th of December 1982, while taking part at a meeting of Centro Sportivo Italiano in Rome.
During his short life, in a period featured by poverty and strong economical differences, he saved hundreds of teenagers from the street, encouraging their passion for sport and life.
