It takes place in Pordenone (Italy) from 1983 and that makes it one of the oldest volleyball tournaments in the world.
Cornacchia World Cup was ideated by Tiziano Cornacchia in 1983, in memory of “grandpa Ferruccio”. Now the tournament is managed with Stefano and Matteo (Tiziano’s sons) and the support of the whole family, who grew up with a unique passion for volleyball.
In 4 decades, Cornacchia World Cup hosted the most important Italian volleyball Clubs and hundreds of foreign teams from 5 continents.
This tournament is dedicated to Ferruccio Cornacchia, a real man of sport.
He founded Real Sant’Antonio sporting club in Porcia, at the end of the sixties.
He’s been involved in the first commitee of Centro Sportivo Italiano in Pordenone, as secretair, since it’s beginning.
After that, he became secretair of the new born Pordenone’s commitee of the Italian Volleyball Federation.
His authentic passion for sport led him to found Polisportiva San Giorgio of Porcia in 1975, starting from the volleyball teams.
Ferruccio passed away the 7th of December 1982, while taking part at a meeting of Centro Sportivo Italiano in Rome.
During his short life, in a period featured by poverty and strong economical differences, he saved hundreds of teenagers from the street, encouraging their passion for sport and life.
